Soil erosion at Huan Sang Temple - Problem resolved.

Developers urged to help

DEVELOPERS should help the communities where their projects are located even if it is not their legal obligation to do so.

State Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said such efforts should be part of the developers’ corporate social responsibility programme.

Wong, who is also the Air Itam assemblyman and State Non-Muslim Religious Places of Worship Committee chairman, was speaking to reporters after inspecting the Huan Sang Temple soil erosion site at Solok Thean Teik, Air Itam, on Sunday.


The front portion of the temple grounds was eroded during a heavy downpour in September last year.

Wong then appealed to the Belleview Group to assist the temple in constructing a water retention wall and drainage system to prevent future landslides from occurring.

“Belleview is currently working on a mix development project near the temple so I approached them for help and thankfully, they willingly obliged.”

Belleview senior project manager Lim Beng Hoe, who was present, said as “neighbours”, the group was very happy to help.

“We could have completed the work in a month but because of the rainy spell, it took us three months to do the job,” he said, adding that the work was completed in early January.

Temple committee chairman Vincent Teh thanked the local authorities and developer for their efforts.

“This temple has been around for 52 years. When the erosion occurred, we were having a celebration here.

“We were worried because water was washing away the soil from the front portion of the temple which is very dangerous — that is the area where we conduct computer classes for students,” he said.

急流冲泄严重地陷 华山祠修补工程完成

（槟城24日讯）位于天德园大道山区的华山祠，在去年9月19日因急流冲泄而发生严重地陷问题，目前修补工程已宣告完成，善信可安心前往庙宇“拜拜”。

亚依淡区州议员黄汉伟披露，当问题发生后，山下的珍美园发展商佳景集团，即发挥社会责任精神展开修补工程，兴建一条沟渠引水到蓄水池和10尺防崩墙。

他指出，尽管曾因雨季以致工程较慢完工，但今年1月初已宣告工程完工，并将减低土崩和洪水发生的几率。

他于周日前往华山祠巡视时，趁机感谢佳景集团施予援手。出席者有该集团工程经理郑永盛、高级工程经理林明豪。

他指出，地陷问题发生是因后山在一阵豪雨后出现急流，而沟渠阻塞无法真正排水，以致强力水流无处可泄转而冲击防崩墙。

他呼吁华山祠日后要经常注意沟渠情况，避免沟渠阻塞以致事件重演。

蓄水池安装安全设施

另外，针对另一个发展商兴建的蓄水池，他将与该发展商了解有关日后在该蓄水池安装安全设施。

华山祠理事会主席郑文胜表示，原本每周日进行的电脑班，将在农历新年后才会重新开放。
